top 10 projects for 2011



2011 looks to be an exciting year for architecture. We have collected the top 10 projects which are to be started or completed in 2011 that were recently added to Archello. See them here.



  1. The Bangkok Central Embassy by Amanda Levete Architect’s will start construction in 2011. A 1.5 million sq ft project which combines retail and hotel space within the gardens of the British Embassy in Bangkok. The large twisting shape will be clad in aluminium tiles.   2. 2. Expected to be topped off in 2011 these 6 high rise towers and 11 low rise villas will be a significant addition to Singapore’s skyline. 3. Part of a proposed new city South of Moscow this project by Studio Marco Vermeulen will house 265 apartments. A twist in the building allows many apartments to enjoy spacious sun terraces. Find out more here: http://www.archello.com/en/project/inside-out-0

There are many large projects planned to be completed in Eastern Europe in 2011. This is one of them, the Mirax Plaza in Kiev, Ukraine. 5. MAD Architects are the designers behind the Huangdu Art Centre in Beijing. The Center is designed to conserve and reflect upon the old architecture of Beijing by stacking different courtyard layers on top of one another. Part of a new metro line in Budapest the Fővám tér station is supported by three levels of reinforced concrete beams. A large open square on ground level covers the station, the squares floor is a skylight that allows natural light to filter down through the net of beams. 7. This waterfront development in Kuala Lumpur by Studio Nicolette Associates will integrate the landscaping with the buildings. The buildings are called “fingers” of developments within the surrounding parks and waters. 8. Smalands Music and Theater in Jönköping, Sweden will be made from a semi transparent façade. Designed by Wingårdh Arkitektkontor the theater will cater for small audiences with 4 individual stages. This shopping complex will be built in the heart of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Architects OFIS designed the building so that each level curved back to create patios and decks for the shoppers. See how they do this here: http://www.archello.com/en/project/shopping-pillow-terraces



10. A landmark hotel for Copenhagen is anticipated to open in 2011. The architects 3XN designed the two towers to incline away from each other enabling unobstructed views from every room in each tower.
